Practice Division Exercises with Examples

In order to do exercises with division, you must first know the multiplication tables. If you need to review them, here are some links to refresh your memory:

Are you ready? Then let’s begin!

In this post, we are going to start with division tables from 1 to 12.

Division Example 1:

divisionIn this case, we have to divide 37 by 8. We search the multiplication table along the row for the number 8, looking for a number close to 37, but without going over.  We find that 8×4=32. Therefore, we write the four in the quotient and in the remainder, we write a five, because 37-32=5.

Division Example 2:

Now, we are going to see exercises with division into one digit. It happens the same way as the previous example, beginning by dividing by the digits on the left.

In this case, we divide 2,556 by 2. We start with the digit on the left, the two, and we divide it by two. We write a one in the quotient and the remainder, which is zero, we write below the number. Now, we bring down the next digit: the five. We divide it in the same way as before. We repeat this step until we have gone through all of the numbers. The quotient is 1,278 and the remainder is 0.

As you have seen: in order to be able to solve division exercises well, you have to know the multiplication tables.
