“I Often Refer to Smartick as Math Dessert Because My Children Can’t Just Get Enough”

Cait is a school psychologist, writer, and homeschooling mom to three amazing children. She is also the blogger behind My Little Poppies, and the co-host of the show The Homeschool Sisters Podcast, where she and her fellow host have already talked about their positive experiences with Smartick.

Her three children have been using our program as part of their math routine since last December – and they love it. They all have different learning profiles, but Smartick’s adaptability means it works for all of them. As Cait explains in her recent collaboration with Simple Homeschool: “We use a little of this and a little of that, and math is no exception. My children use a variety of resources, but their favorite math resource right now is Smartick. I often refer to it as math dessert because they just can’t get enough.”

And that is exactly the positive attitude towards math and learning we want to develop. Smartick is designed for 15-minute daily sessions. This is a period of maximum concentration for children, and logging in every day to do their math helps create a good study habit. It also avoids burnout and keeps children coming back for more.

The smartick is great, my daughter loves it. The smartick is like a game to her only she can learn more and upgrade her skills to be on the same level as a private school kid. I myself love this and think this is the solution to all parents home work headache.

      Hi Caren,

Yes, the Smartick curriculum primarily focuses on maths. The method consists of 15-minute daily sessions, in which students work on arithmetic, word problems, logic, and coding exercises.

      Hi Annalene:

Smartick is primarily for children aged 4-14 years old, as we have content until Grade 8. We would like to clarify however that we do not assess our students’ performance based on age or grade, but rather on their individual math needs and learning pace, as Smartick’s objective is to keep each student progressing according to their own abilities.
What makes the program unique is its adaptability, making it a suitable method for every child. We do not hold our students back if they’ve proven ready for more advanced material. Similarly, we do not force our students forward if they haven’t shown mastery of the current content.

          Hi, Dani!

As you may know, Smartick utilizes its own artificial intelligence to assess students’ performance, allowing us to adapt to each child’s math needs and learning pace in real time. The system is able to detect their individual strengths and weaknesses during Smartick sessions as well as through a series of level assessments and progress tests. The system then continues to adjust their personalized study plans in accordance to such.

Is there a US version? It seems to be European Math. Exame: one of the questions was about a fortnight and my daughter was getting a little frustrated.

      Hi Holly,

Thanks for reaching out! Your daughter can work on her sessions using the American English version, which is already adjusted in her account. I´d like to clarify that Smartick is used by students from over 70 different countries! We are honored to provide Smartick to a diverse group of families. With that said, Smartick is always working to ensure the content, whether using specific vocabulary like fortnight or referring to sports like cricket, is applicable to our students. However, we can´t automatically adjust all the questions to be tailored to a specific country.

Although your daughter was not familiar with fortnight, this can be seen as a positive. When she comes across an unfamiliar word, it can spark her curiosity and thirst for knowledge!
