Today I want to introduce you to Katie and her daughter Squiggle (her wonderful nickname). They are a lovely family living in the UK. They kindly agreed to try Smartick’s online maths platform and Katie wrote about their experience on her blog Living Life Our Way. Ex-teacher and home educator Katie says that she really likes the platform. She highlights a number of qualities she feels define Smartick:
- It teaches methods and skills clearly, in a simple but effective manner
- It’s quite focused and maximises learning
- It contains visual aids and some basic gaming elements that help keep children engaged and improve concentration levels
“The way it adapts itself to the individual to personalise their learning is really impressive!”
Katie is impressed by the 15 minute duration of the Smartick daily sessions, set for maximum concentration and motivation.
“This 15 minutes duration is great as it is just a short, manageable burst of learning and isn’t ‘too much’”
She reminds her readers that Smartick recommends children perform a session at least 5 days a week to truly experience the benefits of the program.
Although Katie knew that this structured approach might not suit Squiggle’s complex needs, and despite not being able to take full advantage of some of the features, they decided to try Smartick and found it very beneficial in their own way, as it still motivated and inspired her.

Finally, Katie talks about the daily e-mails that parents receive, which contain a summary of their child’s performance. She also talks about the parent dashboard on the website, where parents can find all the relevant information on their child’s daily session and other useful performance data.
“There is a team of educators behind the scenes to answer any questions that parents or children have, via phone or email”
