We are going to explain the different mathematical operations throughout different posts.

In today’s post, we are going to review what multiplication is and take a look at different multiplication tables.

### What is multiplication?

Multiplication is a fast way to add when the same number is repeated.

For example, if we have 3 boxes with 2 balls in each one, how many balls do we have in total?

We could add 2 balls + 2 balls + 2 balls = 6 balls, or we could multiply 3 identical groups that have 2 balls each

## 2+2+2 = 3×2 = 6

Let’s look at a different example where we have to calculate the total amount of legs there are if we consider 5 horses:

How would you solve this problem? We have 5 horses, and each one has 4 legs. So, we need** 5** equal groups of **4**:

## 4+4+4+4+4= 4×5 = 20

There are a total of **20 legs.**
